The shortlist for the 2026 Thoroughbred Industry Employee Awards, sponsored by Godolphin, has been officially revealed—shining a spotlight on the exceptional talent and dedication that power the heart of British racing and breeding.
This year, several nominees with roots at the National Horseracing College (NHC) have earned well-deserved recognition across multiple award categories. Their achievements reflect not only personal commitment but also the strength of industry training pathways that continue to support and shape racing’s future workforce.
The Newcomer category features three rising talents, each building an impressive early career in the horseracing industry.
Faye Levick – Jedd O’Keeffe Racing
Completed the Foundation Course in November 2024 and is now undertaking the Level 2 Equine Groom (Racing) Apprenticeship.
Freddie Wilks – Charlie Johnston Racing
Progressed through the 14–16 Year Old Programme (2022–23), completed the Foundation Course, and is currently undertaking the Level 2 Equine Groom (Racing) Apprenticeship.
Lizzy Skidmore – Nick Gifford Racing
Completed the Foundation Course in January 2025 and is now enrolled on the Level 2 Equine Groom (Racing) Apprenticeship.
This category recognises outstanding skill and horsemanship among those working hands-on with racehorses.
Danielle Mooney – Karl Burke Racing
An NHC graduate of the 2008 Foundation Course, Danielle has since completed an apprenticeship and the Amateur Rider Category A course.
Evie Gleason – Marcus Tregoning Racing
Completed the Level 2 Equine Groom (Racing) Apprenticeship within the workplace.
Tom Busfield – Jedd O’Keeffe Racing
Completed the Foundation Course in April 2024 and is currently progressing through the Level 2 Equine Groom (Racing) Apprenticeship.
The Leadership Award honours those who demonstrate exceptional guidance and professionalism in the racing environment.
Jennifer Burns – Jim Goldie Racing
Completed the NVQ Level 2 (now Level 2 Diploma) in 2008 within the workplace.
Michael Mavin – Tim Easterby Racing
Completed the NVQ Level 2 (now Level 2 Diploma) in 2001 within the workplace.
Recognising individuals whose contributions extend beyond the yard, strengthening the wider racing community.
Hayley Clements – Micky Hammond Racing
A long-standing NHC alumni, Hayley completed the Foundation Course (then NVQ Level 1) in 2000, followed by the Level 2 Apprenticeship in 2001 and the NVQ Level 3 (now Level 3 Diploma) in 2003.
The shortlisted nominees will now progress to the next stage of judging as they vie for a place in the prestigious final at Ascot in February 2026.
