British horseracing takes safeguarding extremely seriously. The ongoing work to make the industry as safe and enjoyable as possible is led by the British Horseracing Authority, the governing body of horseracing.
A clear safeguarding strategy has been put in place by the British Horseracing Authority to protect people involved in the industry. It is complete with policies, procedures and regulations. Every participant must adhere to the policies that apply to them.
The National Horseracing College places safeguarding and the welfare of learners at the heart of all we do. We work hard to set high standards and to give our learners the confidence to speak up when they see or experience behaviours that fall short, either at the college or in the workplace. Our staff are all trained in safeguarding and fully understand that upholding this duty of care is everyone’s responsibility. We also have a dedicated team who are skilled in supporting young and vulnerable people once they leave the college to embark on their career in the horseracing industry. We work closely with the British Horseracing Authority safeguarding team, in particular with regard to selecting learner work placements.
