Support Services Manager
Richard became Support Services Manager of the National Horseracing College in January 2022. An agriculture graduate, and former Army officer, he joins the NHC after a varied post-military career kicked off by a brief spell in motorcycle racing before spending time as a yard manager and assistant in busy point to point racing yards.
He then spent twenty years primarily in Africa and the Middle East; working with the UN in conflict zones, managing exploration projects in challenging environments, flying helicopters as a commercial pilot, concurrent with establishing and managing an export horticulture business in East Africa supplying UK supermarkets with herbs.
Relocating back to England in 2021 Richard was determined to return to horseracing and join a team of people who are passionate about what they do.
The challenging and multi-faceted Support Services role draws on his leadership, agricultural, business administration, entrepreneurial and project management skills to support the Operations team in providing life-changing opportunities for people joining or progressing their careers in horseracing and in other equine environments.
