English Lecturer – £35,804.29

(37-hours per week)

Fixed term contract for 40 weeks

The National Horseracing College seeks to employ an English Lecturer to join its enthusiastic, vibrant, and hardworking team. As one of only two specialist horse racing colleges in the UK, this third sector provider delivers training for people in both racing and other equine industries. Located in the scenic grounds of a private estate near Doncaster, it achieved Ofsted Grade 2 for overall effectiveness and Grade 1 for both Behaviour & Attitudes and Personal Development in December 2022.

Lecturers are responsible for preparing and delivering high-quality English and Maths lessons, keeping records updated and providing prompt feedback on learner progress.

Applicants must possess an initial teaching qualification such as a PGCE, DTTLS or Level 5 DET. A minimum of A-Level English (or equivalent), GCSE Maths (or equivalent) is also a mandatory requirement. We are ideally looking for experience of teaching Functional Skills in both subjects, QTS or QTLS status and experience of teaching GCSE in either subject.

You should be highly motivated, an excellent communicator and be able to work as part of a team.  You must have a willingness to work with young people who will present challenging behaviours, which at times can be stressful.

The salary is £35,804.29, which is the M1 Schools rate, per annum with a contributory pension scheme.  An initial holiday entitlement of 25-days plus Bank Holidays, which increases incrementally, and Life Assurance (2x salary).

Our teachers have a much healthier work-life balance, and we don’t expect you to take work home. If you do have a busy period, paid overtime or time in lieu can be agreed with your line manager.
6. Holidays are flexible. We have some learners year-round and others on term-time courses. While we often do take our holidays when the schools are off due to it being quieter, there is the option to take them when the flights are cheaper if that suits you.
