Sous Chef

The National Horseracing College seeks to employ a Sous Chef to join our newly formed in-house catering team. As one of only two specialist horse racing colleges in the UK, this third sector provider delivers training for people in the racing industry.  Located in the scenic grounds of a private estate near Doncaster, it achieved Ofsted Grade 2 in 2016.

To be selected for this interesting, challenging role, you will have great social skills and be able to be managed by the Head Chef, but be able to be a leader to the rest of the team.  Assisting the Head Chef with new menus and dishes, you will have your own creative flair to constantly push for exciting new dishes and helping to tweak the good old classics.

Essential Skills

  • Good standard of culinary skills, presentation, and attention to detail
  • Positive attitude and being able to keep calm in stressful situations
  • Be able to step up to Head Chef when required to do so
  • Adhere to and maintain Health & Safety, EHO and HACCP standards and procedures

Days of work:  42-hours per week on a 4/7 basis.

Cooking and preparing meals for circa 50 learners and staff, three meals a day using fresh and seasonal produce.

The package on offer includes a salary £28K per annum, a contributory pension scheme, initial holiday entitlement of 25 days (+ Bank Hols), Employee Assistance Programme (EAP), and Life Assurance (2 x salary).

The selected applicant will be required to apply for an enhanced disclosure from the Disclosure and Barring Service.
