Buildings Maintenance Operative

The National Horseracing College seeks to appoint a part-time Building Maintenance Operative to join its enthusiastic, vibrant, and hardworking team.

As one of only two specialist horseracing colleges in the UK, this independent training provider delivers training for people in both racing and other equine industries. Located in the scenic grounds of a private estate near Doncaster, it achieved Ofsted Grade 2 for overall effectiveness and Grade 1 for both Behaviour & Attitudes and Personal Development in December 2022.

The Buildings Maintenance Operative ensures the college buildings are well-maintained and presentable.

Key duties

Buildings Maintenance
  • Perform general maintenance and decoration across all college properties, including bathrooms, lighting, doors, and painting.
  • Coordinate with and oversee contractors for electrical and plumbing repairs.
  • Follow planned maintenance schedules.
  • Maintain positive relationships with staff, visitors, and contractors.
  • Undertake relevant training.
General Duties
  • Deliver high-quality work efficiently.
  • Manage and maintain tools, equipment, and materials.
  • Support external upkeep, including stables, grounds, and litter removal.
  • Keep workspaces, stores, and sheds clean and secure.
  • Perform seasonal tasks (e.g. snow clearing).
  • Use hand/power tools for minor repairs and site improvements.
  • Understand and follow COSHH regulations regarding chemicals.
