From no riding experience to riding racehorses in New Zealand…

In 2016 Martin arrived at the National Horseracing College with absolutely no experience of riding or working with horses. Fast-forward to early 2020 and he returned from a year working with and riding racehorses in New Zealand. Since graduating from the 12-week residential Foundation Course, Martin worked for two years as a racing groom for Micky Hammond at his stables in Middleham, North Yorkshire. During his time in Middleham he completed his Level 2 Apprenticeship. In March Martin returned to the National Horseracing College for a couple of days ahead of starting a new job at Richard Phillips Racing. Having not ridden a horse since the end of 2019 Martin was conscious that he was properly prepared prior to taking up his new position. If like Martin you have aspirations to see the world, then horseracing is an industry that will allow you incredible opportunities! Our 12-week, residential Foundation Course will set you up perfectly to work in any racing stable, whether that be in the UK or abroad. For more information visit http://bit.ly/NHCFoundationCourse
