14 – 16 Work Related Learning Programme proves to be a success for Owen

Our Work Related Learning Programme offers 14 – 16 year olds, currently in full-time education, the opportunity to work towards a Level 1 Diploma in Racehorse Care by attending the National Horseracing College (NHC) one-day each week during term time.

In this short video we hear from Owen Payton, who completed the course a couple of years ago. Upon completion of the course and full-time education Owen, who had also gained industry experience through a weekend work placement with South Yorkshire trainer, John Balding, and racing experience thorough the NHC Pony Racing Academy and Pony Racing Camp, was fast-tracked through the Foundation Course before commencing employment at the Middleham stables of Jedd O’Keeffe.

Owen holds an Apprentice Jockey licence and rode his first winner in October 2019.
