Army Veteran turns his hand to horseracing

Thomas Hanratty is presented with his certificate by National Horseracing College’s Chief Executive, Stephen Padgett OBE

On Friday 24th May 2019, we were delighted to present Thomas Hanratty with his National Horseracing College graduation certificate.

Now at the age of 36, Thomas was previously a tank engineer in the Army for 7 years. Looking for a change in career, Thomas took the plunge and has learnt all about racehorse care. Having not ridden a horse before starting his course, Thomas learnt how to ride a racehorse in our indoor school, which was his “favourite part of the course”.

With a huge passion for horseracing, he has today completed his 8 week, non-riding, foundation course in racehorse care and will now head to Lambourn to work for trainer Eve Johnson Houghton.

We wish him the best of luck for the future.
