From Platform to Paddock: Donated Railway Benches Find a New Home at the National Horseracing College

Learners at the National Horseracing College are enjoying a new place to sit, relax and catch up with friends thanks to the donation of railway station benches from Collecteco.

The benches, which were previously located at a railway station in Hull, have been given a second life at the National Horseracing College. With help from staff at Hull Railway Station, the benches were transported to the College, where they are now being used across outdoor social spaces.

The donation was arranged by Collecteco, a social enterprise that helps organisations find new homes for unwanted furniture, equipment and other assets. Rather than sending perfectly usable items to waste, Collecteco works with charities, schools and community organisations to ensure they can continue to be used and enjoyed.

The benches have already become a popular addition to the College, providing learners with somewhere to take a break, relax after yard duties and enjoy the surroundings.

Colonel Stephen Padgett OBE, Chief Executive of the National Horseracing College, said:

We are extremely grateful to Collecteco for this generous donation. The benches have been warmly welcomed by our learners and are already being used daily across the campus. As a charity, we greatly value opportunities to repurpose quality items that enhance our facilities while supporting sustainability.”

Collecteco’s approach to repurposing quality assets aligns closely with our own commitment to sustainability and making the best use of resources. We are delighted that these benches have found a new home at the College where they will benefit learners for many years to come. We’d also like to thank the team at Hull Railway Station for their assistance in helping us transport the benches to the College.”

As one chapter closes for the benches in Hull, a new one has begun at the National Horseracing College.
